Dr. Maria Fondal, MD, FACR
Dr. Maria Fondal is CEO of a thriving practice in Stockbridge, GA. She is Board Certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine.
Dr. Fondal graduated from Vanderbilt University and received her medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. While engaged in graduate research during her enrollment in the school of medicine, Dr. Fondal did critical Basic Science Research. As a medical student, she discovered and worked out the method of proof in radiation research. This research lead to identifying np170 as topoisomerase II. Her work is published in basic science research journals, “The Suppression of the Synthesis of a Nuclear Protein in Cells Blocked in G2 Phase: Identification of NP-170 as Topoisomerase II.”
Dr. Fondal was trained in Rheumatology by the renowned Dr. Gordon Sharp (founder of Sharp’s Disease). At the University of Missouri in Columbus, Dr. Sharp’s lab was the leading autoimmune lab in the world.
Dr. Fondal continues to work as a Principal Investigator for over 200 clinical trials. She is board certified through NIH. Some of these trials included investigating Rituximab for the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis, etanercept as a DMARD, Abatacept, and many current Lupus trials. Her passion is for developing an agent for the treatment of advanced end organ systemic lupus erythematosus. She has one of the largest databases for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, which is usually the top ranking site for enrollment.
Dr. Fondal is the proud mother of three grown sons, all of whom attend college in Georgia. Her youngest son is the youth governor of Georgia.
