Dr. Irene Tong, M.D.
Doctor Irene Tong is a board-certified rheumatologist. Her undergraduate degree was in biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. She then attended the University of Southern California Medical School and completed her internship and residency at LAC-USC, followed by her rheumatology fellowship at LAC-USC and RLAH (Rancho Los Amigos Hospital). She has been in private practice since, initially with a multi-specialty clinic, where she was the first female physician in that clinic. Since 2000, she has been in a rheumatology only practice and, along with her associate, has provided comprehensive rheumatologic care with infusion service, on-site x-rays, and bone density testing. Since the completion of her fellowship, Dr. Tong has been on the voluntary attending faculty at USC (now Keck Medical School), conducting consult rounds with rheumatology fellows, residents, interns, and medical students.
Dr. Tong believes in truly listening to her patients and caring for their physical as well as emotional needs, whatever their ethnicity. Being fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, she is able to communicate with and serve this population.
Besides loving to learn about new ideas and advances in treatment of patients with educational courses, she enjoys fencing, hiking, cooking, and attending chamber orchestra and philharmonic concerts. She is very proud of her three accomplished grown children who are the best human beings in the world and her two young, sweet, and challenging grandchildren.
