Dr. Yvonne Smallwood Sherrer, MD, FACR

Dr. Sherrer is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. Since 1998, she has been the Medical Director and Director of Clinical Research at the Centre for Rheumatology, Immunology and Arthritis, a practice she opened to meet the growing rheumatological needs of southeast Florida. She has been a practicing rheumatologist for approximately 30 years. Her primary passion is clinical medicine. She loves taking care of her patients. She is also devoted to “cutting edge” medicine and stays current clinically through teaching and research.

She was formerly the Chairman of Rheumatology at Cleveland Clinic Florida for five years. She also taught as part of the volunteer clinical faculty at the University of Miami for many years. More recently, she teaches residents, fellows, and students who rotate at her facility on a regular basis. She has held a number of leadership positions, including having been a been a board member of the American College of Rheumatology, a past president of the Florida Society of Rheumatology, and an appointed member of the FDA Advisory Committee for Arthritis.

She loves to teach and has been an invited speaker nationally and internationally. She has received a number of awards including the “Help and Hope Award” from the Florida Arthritis Foundation and the 2016 Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Rheumatology. She has been annually voted by her peers as A Best Doctor in her specialty for over 20 years. She has been the Principal investigator of nearly 300 clinical trials in Rheumatic Therapeutics and, through that research, helped to bring to market a number of the of the drugs that revolutionized the treatment of rheumatic disorders.

Despite the above, Dr. Sherrer views her greatest achievements as those related to caring for her patients and their families. Her office creates an atmosphere of a family that’s there to expertly and compassionately help each patient through their medical needs.
